Top Box Office 1/9/12: 'The Devil Inside' Debuts $35M

I don't expect 'The Devil Inside' to make a lot of money at the box office next year  The Devil Inside made $35M at the Box Office. How? Well check out the jump to see why.

The beginning of 2012 started off unexpected. During the weekend, audiences flocked into the movie theaters to see the first release of the year, The Devil Inside. Paramount's low budget release scared up a $34.5M during the weekend. It's one of the movies that made the most money during the slow beginning of January in history. The horror film made an estimate $16,000 per theater. Although audiences did enjoy the R-rated movies, critics have their own opinion.

According to Rottentomatoes.com, 6% of critics enjoyed the movie (that is, 3 out of 49 critics loved the cheap terrible movie.) The numbers are expected to fall during the week. The film is ranked at $33.7M

Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol was defeated by The Devil Inside, but the film only drop 30% from Friday to Sunday with an estimate $20.5M. The film so far has made an impressive $170.5M

Peek Of The Week: 1/6/12

Contagion spreads to DVD & Blu-ray this week, about the worst-case scenario of a highly dangerous virus.
Also out is Guillermo Del Toro's remake of Don't Be Afraid of the Dark, a horror movie starring Guy Pearce and Katie Holmes. And finally, there's I Don't Know How She Does It, a film starring Sarah Jessica Parker (I don't know how they did this movie.)

Other Releases: Dog Sweat, I Am, Puncture, Shark Night 3D, The Greening of Whitney Brown, The Guard, The Last Lions

And in cinemas this week is The Devil Inside, the first wide release of 2012. It's times like these where process is really slow at the box office, and after the last exorist documentary being an utter failure, there's no high chance of this movie making more an $10 M at the Box Office.

                                                       THE DEVIL INSIDE (Horror/Thriller)
                                                       In theaters: Friday
                                                       Distributed by: Paramount Pictures

Not a really exciting beginning for 2012, but don't worry. There will be other great movies to be released furthur this year, and you can always check here for updates, news, and more, only at THE MOVIE CRAP.

Top Box Office 1/2/12: 'Impossible' Survives the Impossible Holiday Weekend

Here it is fellas. The first results for the TOP BOX OFFICE for this year are here. Scroll down to see the results.

Looks like Tom Cruise stays at top for a third week in the fourth installment for the Impossible franchise, Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol(90%) over the Holiday weekend with an estimate of $37M over the weekend. The movie that costed $145M to make will soon reach making $200M in the US and $500M worldwide. It's currently ranked at $29.4M at the Box Office.

At second place is the other action sequel, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (60%) starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law, which made around $26.5M at the Box Office over the weekend. The Warner Bros. picture has now made $136.5M in 18 days. The first Sherlock made $166.4M at the Box Office in 2009, and it's sequel is now around 18% left to reaching that total. The film is currently ranked at $20.9M at the Box Office.

Following Sherlock Holmes 2 is the sequel Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked (10%.) The third installment in the franchise raised 8%, with an estimate of $21M, making it a total of $97M already. It's still 34% behind from the predecessor that opened in 2007. Alvin 3 is currently ranked $16.4M at the Box Office.

The critical-acclaimed, David Fincher directed, American remake The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (80%) lands at 4th place with a estimate gross of $19M at the Box Office over the weekend. The film has now grossed $60M at the Box Office. Dragon Tattoo is the #1 top grossing R-rated movie of 2011. Recently announced a sequel in 2013, the movie has a high chance of reaching $90M, possibly $100M at the US box office soon.

And at 5th place, the Steven Spielberg directed War Horse (100%)(which I think is the best film of December AND one of the best films of 2011.) The war movie grossed $19.4M over the week and has now made $45.2M since it debuted on Christmas Day, and looks to reach $75M around the end of January. War Horse is currently ranked at $14.4M at the Box Office.

OTHER RELEASES:

The Matt Damon dramedy We Bought a Zoo (70%) stands at 6th place with an estimate $16.5M to the sum of $45M within 11 days. Ranked at $13.2M.

The second Steven Spielberg directed movie The Adventures of Tintin(100%) which stands at 7th, made around $15M, making a total of $50.8M. Ranked at $11.4M.

The Warner Bros. all-star cast New Year's Eve (20%) raised $7.7M to the $47.4M already made. Currently in 8th place, there's a low chance of making more money due to the bad reviews, and the new year. Ranked at $6.3M.

The 3D alien invasion The Darkest Hour (20%) lies at 9th, with $5.3M made over the week. That sums up to $14.2M.

The likely Oscar-nominated film The Descendants (90%)(which came out in limited release by the way) is at last place, with $5.3M made at the box office. A total of $40.3M already made, the George Clooney film might survive January with Golden Globe wins and Academy Awards nominations. Ranked at $3.4M.

Yes, that is the box office for this week. Maybe with The Devil Inside opening this week well see new numbers, or not.
